Resilience

Staying Resilient this Christmas

At Jewel we have been running Building Resilience workshops to help people develop strategies on how to ‘bounce back’ when the pressure is on at work.  However what do we do in our personal lives when we are under pressure?  Christmas is a wonderful time of year that can, for some, be full of pressure.  Here are some tips on how to stay resilient over the Christmas break.

Tip 1    If you are worried about a difficult situation that you might have to deal with, such as hosting a person who you do not get on with, then try to ‘reframe’ the situation.  Reframing is a technique where you try to think differently about a situation in a more positive way so that you can cope with it.

Tip 2    Reward yourself when you have achieved something that you found challenging or difficult.  Giving praise to those around you, who have supported you in this, will help you build their resilience too.

Tip 3    Try some mindfulness techniques to focus your mind on the now.  This could be going for a walk, listening to a piece of music, or just being still and aware of your surroundings using all 5 senses.

Wishing you a Happy and Healthy Christmas and a Resilient 2019.
